ROCKET III

Postby WESLEY » Sat Jul 17, 2010 6:32 pm

Question???

Has anyone rode a Triumph Rocket III & if so what did you think.

I'm thinking of swapping my Sport after my run down to Siena next month and would value any opinions, good or bad.

Cheers

My brother has one. Owned it since 2004...

140 mile tank range... Terrible on the bends. SERIOUSLY fast on the traffic light grand prix. I mean serious. faster than nearly anything else on the road including the £200000+ cars...

Pretty good tourer with the right screen on. Obviously very heavy when moving in and out of the garage...

Ride one....

Thanks for the info', I've really got the urge to get one but the only thing putting me off is the fuel economy, I have heard that they can actually do sub 30mpg which doesn't bode well for long distance touring.

Cheers

Like any bike, they wont go far if you thrash them BUT the rocket is so powerful that you are generally only tickling the engine so economy isnt too bad....

I've been to have a sit on one today and it fits like a glove.I'm going to have a test ride soon and I think that when I get back from Siena in August I will be swapping the Guzzi for a Rocket III Touring.

It was one of the bikes I was looking at. I loved my RS Trumpy and all the Triumphs tend to be very reliable (or I haven't heard of any issues) MUCH better than Guzzi 8)

They ride quite well, but they are a (very fast) cruiser not a standard (and certainly not a sport bike) The way they can accelerate left me coming in a bit hot for corners on a big heavy bike, not fun. But if you can ride sensible you won't have problems (or at least try to confine your hard accelerations to traffic lights)

For me the "sport" aspect of the sport + low speed handling and lane splitting ability was where the rocket was lacking. Wasn't too impressed with the unusual rear tire size either.

But there are heaps of them around here, because they are a good bike. I doubt you would be unhappy with one.
bye for now,

Cheers Mal

I think I've now got it out of my system, I went back yetserday to have another look at the Rocket III Tourer and decided it reminded me too much of a Hardley Roadthing and I just couldn't live with that image in my mind so have decided to keep my Sport, I think it will be the right decision .

You may be like me and have a thing for weird engines.

I've wanted
Honda VFR's for their gear drive cams (didn't like 2 stroke style Vtec or the look of the 1200's)
Ducatis for their Desmodromic valves
BMW's for their boxer engine

Got the Triumph because of it's classic 955 3-cylinder engine. Even if it did sound like a box of rusty spanners it was a great engine. And the 1200 Sport is like the last generation of the classic Guzzi 2V twin.

heeh EVERY time I ride my partners 750 Breva I think "I REALLY enjoy riding this, it's such a light and nimble bike. I should trade my Sport (insurance is sending me broke) and get a V7C"

Then I get back on the Sport, accelerate, and think "Nope, that why I want this one"

p.s. I told my partner about thinking of swaping the Sport and she said, "Why? You already have a 750" Got to love the way girls think :D
(unless she meant I'm already borrowing it too often  )
